At ELLESILK, we love helping our clients create beautiful custom twilly scarves. However, we’ve noticed a common issue: many design files submitted for Twilly scarves are not set up correctly. This can lead to problems during production and affect the final look of your scarf.
To help make the process easier and smoother, we’ve created two easy-to-use design templates — one in Adobe Illustrator (.ai) format and one in Adobe Photoshop (.psd) format.
This article will walk you through how to use the template properly and offer a few simple tips to make sure your custom twilly turns out exactly as you imagined.
Template Overview
When you open the template in Illustrator or Photoshop, you’ll see two main areas:
- Gray Area – Bleed Area
This part extends beyond the final scarf size and will be folded into the edges during production. It becomes the concealed edge. Your artwork should still fill this area to avoid any white edges, but it won’t be fully visible on the finished product. - White Area – Safe Print Area
This is the safe print area. All important parts of your design — like the pattern, artwork, or logos — should be placed inside the white area. This is what will actually appear on your Twilly scarf when it’s finished.
✅ To create your final design, simply place your main artwork inside the white area, adjust the position, and save the file. That’s it!

Helpful Tips for a Perfect Twilly Design
To make sure your design prints correctly and looks great after the custom twilly is sewn and folded, here are a few key tips:
1. If your design includes a border, keep it inside the white area
If your pattern has a decorative border around the edges, make sure it stays completely inside the white safe print area. Borders that go into the gray bleed area may get cut off or hidden in the seams.
2. If your custom twilly has a center border between the pattern A and pattern B, make sure the center border is at least 0.5 cm wide
Why? Because after the customized twilly is folded, a very thin border might disappear or only show on one side. A border that’s at least 0.5 cm wide will appear clearly on both sides of the folded Twilly.
3. Don’t place important elements too close to the edge
Even though your background should extend into the gray bleed area, important parts of your design — like text, logos, or main artwork — should stay within the white safe zone to make sure they don’t get trimmed or hidden in the folds.
